Search Begins for Fast Growth Tech Companies
Deloitte & Touche Launches 2000 Canadian Technology Fast 50
Program Search for Year’s and Next Wave of Canada’s Fastest Growing Tech
Companies
TORONTO, April 17, 2000 – Deloitte & Touche commenced
its search of Canada’s technology companies today, with a call for nominations
for the third annual Canadian Technology Fast 50. The program identifies
Canada’s fastest growing technology companies, both public and private, from
all technology sectors, including software, biotechnology and manufacturing
that are driving accelerated growth in the industry today.
“Canada’s technology industry continues to deliver phenomenal
growth rates creating more opportunities to be a dominant force in global
markets,” says Garry Foster, National Director, High Technology and Telecom,
Deloitte & Touche. “In 1999, Canadian Technology Fast 50 recipients
achieved an average five year growth rate of 1116.5% compared to their U.S.
counterparts in the Technology Fast 500 who averaged 915%.”
Deloitte & Touche also announced that all recipients of the
2000 Canadian Technology Fast 50 will be automatically eligible for the
Technology Fast 500 for the first time. The 500 fastest growing
technology companies in the U.S. and Canada will be identified based on their
percentage growth in revenues over a five-year period (1995 – 1999). Based on
the rate of growth in the respective markets, 46 of last year’s Canadian
Technology Fast 50 recipients would have earned a place in the 1999 Technology
Fast 500 ranking of U.S. companies.
In addition, Deloitte & Touche has created a new category,
Canadian Shooting Stars, to recognize emerging fast growth technology
companies. A limited number of these awards will be presented to Canadian
technology companies that are experiencing dramatic growth but are not eligible
for the Canadian Technology Fast 50 category.
Nominations for the 2000 Canadian Technology Fast 50 program
will be accepted through to June 26, 2000 with recipients to be announced on
September 28. Technology Fast 500 recipients will be published on
November 27, 2000.
