Canada’s Fastest Growing Firms Prove Tech Sector’s Resiliency in 2001 Canadian Technology Fast 50

Canadian firms continue to sustain rapid growth and surpass prior records

Toronto, September 20, 2001Stratos Global Corporation, Dynex Power Inc. and Cryptologic Inc. awarded top billing by Deloitte & Touche in the 2001 Canadian Technology Fast 50.  Toronto-based Stratos posted record growth in revenues from 1996 to 2000 at 73,068%, surpassing its second place ranking on last year’s list to grab first place in 2001.  First time recipients, Ottawa-based Dynex Power and Toronto-based Cryptologic secured the No. 2 and 3 spots respectively with 45,574% and 23,779% growth.

Rounding out the top 10 companies are Pivotal Corporation (BC, 14351%), Knowledge House Inc. (NS, 14258%), InfoInterActive Inc. (NS, 9443%), MedcomSoft Inc. (ON, 6001%), MGI Software (ON, 5819%), Shop 9000 Sales Inc. (ON, 5656%) and Bridges.com Inc. (BC, 5015%).

For the first time, Eastern Canadian firms broke into the Canadian Technology Fast 50, highlighting the expansion of the tech sector across the country.  Knowledge House and InfoInterActive, both from Nova Scotia, scored double-headers by qualifying as a Canadian Technology Fast 50 company and debuting among this year’s top 10.

This year’s ranking reveals Canadian firms are not only growing at a rapid pace, but are also achieving sustained levels of growth, setting a high standard for continued success in the face of an extremely dynamic market.  Eighteen (36%) of the 2001 Canadian Technology Fast 50 recipients also placed in the last year’s rankings.  Two companies, BCE Emergis and Research in Motion have placed each year since the program’s inception in 1998.

The Deloitte & Touche Canadian Technology Fast 50 recognizes Canada’s fastest growing tech firms, both public and private, from all technology sectors.  For some, growth is achieved through acquisitions and consolidation while others grow organically.  The annual program ranks the 50 fastest-growing technology companies based on the highest rates of revenue growth during the last five years (1996 to 2000).
